Maritime Labour Convention

Vela operates in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 and is MLC compliant. It is currently in the process of obtaining formal MLC certification. In line with this, we adhere to all applicable requirements set out under the Convention.

For yachts that are MLC compliant, commercially operated, or over 500 GT, we require the following compliance documentation to be provided alongside the applicable Terms and Conditions:

Certificate of MLC Compliance

A Certificate of MLC Compliance confirms that a yacht meets the minimum working and living standards for seafarers set out in the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006, including conditions such as accommodation, hours of work and rest, welfare, and crew employment arrangements.

Yacht Certificate of Registry

A Yacht Certificate of Registry is an official document issued by a flag state that proves the yacht’s nationality and legal identity, confirming details such as ownership, tonnage, and designated home port, and authorising it to operate under that flag.

P&I Insurance Certificate

A P&I (Protection and Indemnity) Insurance Certificate is evidence that the yacht is covered by a mutual insurance association for third‑party liabilities, such as crew claims, passenger injury, pollution, collision liability, and other risks arising from the vessel’s operation.

Lets Work Together...

Vela partners with yachts that share the same commitment to high standards of safety, welfare, and compliance set out under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. By working only with vessels that can provide the required MLC documentation alongside our Terms and Conditions, we help ensure a secure and professional environment for every crew member placed on board.
